Our Mission
HAVEN Free Clinic is a student-run primary care clinic that partners with Yale University to advance access to sustainable, comprehensive, and high-quality care for uninsured adults in New Haven, supporting patients in accessing care both within HAVEN and across the community.
We are a student-run free clinic
We think you should know exactly what that means before you walk in the door, so here it is in plain terms.
- Who sees you
- Students from the Yale School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, and the Physician Associate Program, in collaboration with Yale Medicine.
- Who supervises
- A licensed attending physician oversees every clinical encounter and reviews your care before you leave.
- When we are open
- Saturday mornings, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM. That is the whole clinic. We are not open on weekdays or after hours.
- What it costs
- Your visit is free and HAVEN never bills you for it. Patients are asked to cover medications priced under $25. For medications at or above $25, we screen for your ability to pay and work with you on the cost. No patient is ever denied a medication because they cannot pay. Labs, imaging, or specialist care we arrange for you can still generate a bill from Yale New Haven Health — bring it to us before you pay it.
- What we cannot do
- We are not an emergency room, and we do not provide surgery, imaging, or prenatal care. When something is outside what we can treat safely, we refer you and help you get there.
Being a teaching clinic is why we can be free, and it is also why we are careful about what we take on. Read our full scope of care, or the visitor guide for what a Saturday at HAVEN actually looks like.

Upcoming Clinic Days
Open Saturdays. Call (203) 200-0673 to schedule. Leave a voicemail and allow at least 48 hours for a return call.
Specialty clinics on select Saturdays
Alongside primary care, HAVEN runs rotating specialty clinics on particular Saturdays, staffed by attending specialists:
- Nephrology
- Neurology
- Dermatology
- Reproductive Health (RHD)
Which specialty runs on which Saturday changes through the term. Any date above shows the clinic running that day. For dates further out, ask your care team or call (203) 200-0673.
If you cannot make it, call us
We only see patients on Saturday mornings, and there is a waiting list for every slot. When someone misses an appointment without telling us, that time cannot go to anyone else.
Our no-show policy: if you miss 3 or more appointments in a row without letting us know, we will not be able to reschedule you at HAVEN.
Cancelling is easy and there is no penalty for it. Reply to the automated appointment reminder you receive, or call us as soon as you know, even if it is the morning of, and we will find you another time.
Who We Serve
HAVEN Free Clinic provides care to adults in the Greater New Haven area who meet the following criteria:
What counts as Greater New Haven?
Our catchment area is the set of towns we draw patients from. If you live in any of these 15 towns, you meet the location criterion:
- Bethany
- Branford
- East Haven
- Guilford
- Hamden
- Madison
- Meriden
- Milford
- New Haven
- North Branford
- North Haven
- Orange
- Wallingford
- West Haven
- Woodbridge
Not on the list but nearby? Call us at (203) 200-0673 anyway. We would rather talk it through than have you assume the answer is no.
The Compass Program
A Saturday clinic staffed by students should not be anyone's doctor forever. Compass is how we make sure it is not. We follow a three to five year plan that ends with you having coverage and a permanent provider of your own.
- 1
While you are here
Your care team gets to know your health over multiple visits instead of starting from scratch each time.
- 2
Along the way
We connect you with specialists, community resources, and help applying for coverage you may not know you qualify for.
- 3
When you are ready
We hand you off to a permanent primary care provider who is open during the week, and we help make that first appointment.
